A late night traffic stop on Oro Dam Boulevard near La Esmeralda Market across from Pizza Hut took place at approximately 11:30PM on Saturday, March 15th when CHP stopped a white Honda Civic because of a traffic issue.

The stop quickly took a turn for the dramatic when, according to multiple law enforcement sources, the driver and sole occupant who later identified himself as George Leon Jarrell of Oroville, jumped out of the vehicle after shortly after it came to a stop, running across Oro Dam Boulevard and disappearing from sight somewhere inside or behind the business complex home to Cassidy’s, Subway, and Ifa Journey.

Oroville Police, Butte County Sheriff’s Deputies, and additional CHP units responded to the scene, with County units bringing along a canine to aid in the search. According to CHP officers, a passerby pointed law enforcement to a large bush between Ifa Journey and Pizza Hut, where Jarrell was hiding.

Taken into custody on an outstanding warrant out of Sacramento (presumably his reason for fleeing) 46-year old Jarrell sat in the back of a CHP patrol car while a search was conducted of his vehicle. Among items found during the search were a “meth bong”, and a wallet apparently containing the drivers license or California state ID of another man, one Carl James Brown.

Jarrell was taken into custody on his outstanding warrant and apparent possession of drug paraphernalia, and his vehicle was impounded.
